13 Naxals Killed, 50 Arrested in Major Security Offensive on Chhattisgarh–AP Border

Raipur

In the last two days, security forces have killed 13 Naxals and arrested 50 in intense encounters along the Chhattisgarh–Andhra Pradesh border, marking a significant blow to Maoist insurgents in the region.

Major Encounter on Border

A fierce gun battle took place in the Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district, Andhra Pradesh, on Wednesday morning between police and Maoists. The encounter resulted in the death of 7 Naxalites, including prominent Maoist leader Tek Shankar.

Authorities recovered an AK-47 rifle and a large quantity of ammunition from the site.

The deceased include Jyoti alias Sarita (DVCM), Suresh alias Ramesh, Lokesh alias Ganesh, Saine alias Vasu, Anita, and Shammi, all previously active in the Jagargunda–South Bastar area.

Large-Scale Arrests

Simultaneously, Andhra Pradesh police conducted operations in Kakinada, Krishna, Vijayawada, and ASR districts, arresting 50 Naxal members.

Among those arrested are key operatives from the Dandakaranya region: Madanna, Manila, Podium Rengu, Sodi Lachhu, and Udde Raghu.

These detainees are being interrogated jointly by Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh police.

Recent Key Killings

The encounters follow last week’s killing of Hidma, one of India’s most wanted Naxal commanders, along with his wife and four others in the Maredumilli forest on November 18.

Hidma was the mastermind behind over 26 major Naxal attacks in the last two decades, including:

  • 2010 Dantewada ambush (76 CRPF jawans martyred)
  • 2013 Jeeram Ghati attack
  • 2021 Sukma–Bijapur assault

Other Developments

In Dongargarh’s Bortalav forest area, another clash between security forces and Maoists led to the martyrdom of an MP Police constable.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Ashish Sharma, who was grievously injured in the firefight, succumbed to his wounds in Dongargarh hospital.

Previous Encounter in Bijapur

On November 11, Bijapur’s national park area witnessed an encounter in which six Naxals, including three women, were killed.

Notably, Buchanna, in-charge of the Madde area committee, and Urmila, wife of senior Naxal leader Paparao, were among the deceased. Paparao narrowly escaped capture.

Impact and Ongoing Operations

These recent actions reflect heightened security operations targeting the high-command and operative levels of the Maoist cadre.

The combined efforts of Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh police, supported by state paramilitary forces, have dismantled key insurgent networks, recovered weapons, and curtailed activities along this volatile region.

This crackdown sends a strong message of resolve from security agencies in their battle against Naxalism, aiming to restore peace and stability in affected areas.

Coordinated efforts and interrogations continue to track remaining insurgents and prevent resurgence.

This surge in operations marks one of the most successful anti-Naxal campaigns in recent months across the Chhattisgarh–AP border, crucial for India’s internal security.
