FIR Against Karni Sena Chief for Threatening Police Officers’ Families

Raipur: The Raipur Police have registered an FIR against Dr. Raj Shekhawat, National President of the Kshatriya Karni Sena, for allegedly threatening the families of police personnel involved in the arrest of history-sheeter Virendra Tomar.

FIR Registered Under BNS Sections

The case was filed on 15 November 2025 at the Moudhapara Police Station based on a complaint lodged by former Old Basti SHO Inspector Yogesh Kashyap.
The charges include criminal intimidation and threatening a public servant.

Threats Made During Social Media Live

Dr. Shekhawat issued the threats during a social media live session, accusing police of publicly parading usurer and history-sheeter Virendra Tomar after his arrest.
In the live session, he threatened to enter the homes of police officers involved in the operation, including the Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

Even after the FIR, Dr. Shekhawat again posted on X (formerly Twitter), reiterating his aggressive stance and announcing a ‘Nyay Mahapanchayat’ in Chhattisgarh on 7 December.
He also warned Home Minister Vijay Sharma, claiming he had served in the Indian Army and fought terrorists, and declared that thousands of supporters with strong sticks and saffron flags would march to Raipur, daring the police to stop them.

Home Minister Vijay Sharma Issues Stern Warning

Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Vijay Sharma responded firmly, saying:
“No one who creates disturbance in Chhattisgarh will be spared. Strict action will be taken.”
He further said that social organisations are meant for good work, not for supporting criminals.
“A criminal is a criminal, regardless of which institution or society he belongs to. If society stands behind every offender, how will law enforcement function?” he asked.

History-Sheeter Virendra Tomar Sent to Judicial Remand

Virendra Tomar, arrested after a five-month search, was produced before the District Court on 14 November 2025, which sent him to 14 days’ judicial remand.

Tomar has over 16 criminal cases registered across multiple police stations in Raipur, including:

  • Usury (Soodkhori)
  • Arms Act violations
  • Attempt to murder
  • Assault

Outside the court, Tomar claimed he was being framed and alleged police harassment of his family.

Meanwhile, his brother Rohit Tomar remains absconding, and police teams are conducting raids to locate him.

Community Leadership Divided

Adding to the controversy, this incident has highlighted a rift within the community.
Three months earlier, Mahipal Singh Makrana, National President of the Rajput Karni Sena (a separate organisation), had stated in Raipur that Virendra Singh Tomar had no connection with the Karni Sena, warning against misuse of the organisation’s name for personal or illegal activities.
