Prime Minister Modi to Inaugurate Nation’s First Digital Museum Showcasing Tribal Freedom Heroes in Nava Raipur

Raipur
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Museum in Nava Raipur, Atal Nagar, during the upcoming Rajyotsav celebrations. The museum, envisioned under the initiative of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, will be India’s first fully digital museum, dedicated to the valor and sacrifices of Chhattisgarh’s tribal freedom fighters.
The grand museum and memorial, built in memory of tribal revolutionaries who led 16 uprisings in Chhattisgarh during India’s freedom struggle, is in its final phase of preparation. Officials from the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs, who reviewed the site on Monday, lauded the museum’s grandeur and its dynamic digital presentation.
Principal Secretary Sonmani Borah accompanied Ranjana Chopra, OSD, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and Deepali Masirkar, Director, during the inspection and briefed them on the project. He said the museum stands as a symbol of historic pride, courage, and sacrifices of the tribal communities of Chhattisgarh. “It will serve as a lasting reminder for future generations of the tribal revolts that shaped India’s freedom movement. This museum will inspire not only tribal communities but also visitors from across the country and abroad,” Borah said.
A key highlight of the museum will be the digital storytelling of tribal revolts and their heroes, allowing visitors to both see and hear accounts of bravery. The entire museum complex is being developed with modern facilities.
According to officials, the entrance gate will feature intricately carved panels created by artists from Surguja. Upon entering, visitors will encounter a replica of a 1,400-year-old Sal tree, with each leaf depicting a vivid story from the 14 major tribal uprisings.
OSD Ranjana Chopra suggested enhancing the museum’s aesthetics by developing pathways and lighting around the central pond, incorporating tribal art in the galleries, and displaying original archival documents such as Veer Narayan Singh’s jail records and sentencing orders on the outer walls of the orientation room.
She also recommended preserving and displaying the sword associated with Veer Narayan Singh’s struggle, creating audio-visual and digital exhibits on the Sonakhan Rebellion, and installing QR-enabled displays so that visitors can scan and access detailed information and audio tracks. Chopra further proposed setting up a selfie point to engage visitors.
The museum will feature 14 thematic galleries, vividly showcasing scenes from key tribal uprisings such as the Halba Rebellion, Sarguja Uprising, Bhopalpatnam Rebellion, Parlakot Revolt, Tarapur Revolt, Lingagiri Revolt, Koi Revolt, Meria Revolt, Muria Revolt, Rani Chaurasi Revolt, Bhumkal Revolt, Sonakhan Rebellion, Jhanda Satyagraha, and Jungle Satyagraha. Two special galleries are being developed exclusively for Jungle Satyagraha and Jhanda Satyagraha.
