Patna High Court Takes Strong Note of AI-Generated Video Targeting PM Modi’s Family, Orders Immediate Action

Patna, 17 September 2025: On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and the Pitra Raksha ritual observed for his late mother, the Patna High Court today heard a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the circulation of a highly controversial video posted on the official X handle of the Bihar Congress Committee.

The video, which has been identified as artificially generated, falsely attributed statements to the Prime Minister’s late mother. It referenced the government’s demonetization policy and included an inflammatory remark alleging potential vote rigging in the upcoming Bihar elections.

The Hon’ble Court expressed serious concern over the matter, noting that the circulation of such content violates established legal principles. The Court emphasized that the right to privacy and the right to reputation are integral parts of Article 21 of the Constitution of India, citing precedents set by the Supreme Court and various High Courts.

In response, the Court directed the concerned intermediaries to take immediate steps to halt the circulation of the AI-generated video, underlining the need to prevent the dissemination of misleading and defamatory content.

This development highlights the increasing scrutiny by Indian courts over artificially manipulated media and its potential impact on public discourse and electoral integrity.
