Raipur Police bust inter-state drug syndicate, seize heroin worth Rs 57 lakh; six arrested

RAIPUR
Raipur Police have arrested six members of an inter-state drug trafficking syndicate, including its key supplier Manmohan Singh Sandhu alias Jaggu, and his distributors Vijay Motwani and Bhushan Sharma. Police seized 273.19 grams of heroin, locally known as ‘chitta’, with a street value of around Rs 57 lakh.
This latest operation brings the total number of accused arrested by Raipur Police in drug-related cases to 34. The total value of heroin seized by the police so far is estimated at Rs 1.57 crore.
The syndicate was run by a Punjab-based trafficker. The accused used video and location sharing to supply the drugs.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team from the Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit (ACCU) and Kabir Nagar police station raided Vedant Vatika in the Heerapur area and caught Manmohan Singh Sandhu alias Jaggu red-handed with the heroin. During questioning, Sandhu revealed that a Punjab-based trafficker supplied him with the drugs, which he distributed to Vijay Motwani and Bhushan Sharma for sale.
A special team was formed to conduct simultaneous raids at multiple locations based on Sandhu’s information. Raids were conducted in Veer Savarkar Nagar, near Jarway Pond, and in the RDA Colony, leading to the arrest of Sandhu’s wife Jaspreet Kaur, Vijay Motwani, Nitin Patel, and Divya Jain. The police recovered heroin from their homes. Vijay Motwani was found to be distributing the drugs by travelling on his two-wheeler.
In a separate case registered at the Kotwali police station, an investigation into a drug offence led to the arrest of Bhushan Sharma. Sharma told police that Sandhu supplied him and Motwani with the heroin.
The accused have been booked under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The arrested accused in the Kabir Nagar police station case are:
- Manmohan Singh Sandhu alias Jaggu, 30
- Vijay Motwani alias Aman, 23
- Divya Jain, 24
- Nitin Patel, 19
- Jaspreet Kaur alias Bobby, 25
The accused arrested in the Kotwali police station case is:
- Bhushan Sharma alias Suraj, 30
Police seized 273.19 grams of heroin, five mobile phones, and one two-wheeler from the accused. The operation was carried out by a team led by Inspector Paresh Kumar Pandey (ACCU) and Inspector Sunil Das (Kabir Nagar police station).
