Massive fire erupts in storage area of Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited

Raipur
A massive fire erupted in the storage area of the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL) near the crowded Gudhiyari area adjacent to the railway station in the state capital Raipur on Friday afternoon, prompting a swift response from firefighters. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.
The blaze swiftly spread across approximately one and a half acres of land, requiring the deployment of over a dozen fire brigade vehicles to combat it. Initial reports suggest that the fire originated from a short circuit within a transformer. Continuous blasts could be heard from the site, indicating the severity of the situation. The premises house a significant number of transformers, further complicating the firefighting efforts.
As thick smoke engulfed the city’s skyline, chaos gripped the surrounding area. Senior officials, including Secretary to the Chief Minister P Dayanand, Collector Dr Gaurav Singh, and Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh, rushed to the scene to assess the situation.
Despite ongoing efforts, the fire remained uncontained. Authorities coordinated evacuation procedures to ensure the safety of residents living near the incident site.
Meanwhile, R K Shukla, Managing Director of CSPDCL and Chhattisgarh Power Transmission Company Limited, informed TOI on Friday evening that the fire was under control as additional fire brigades continued to arrive.
Approximately 25 transformers, including two to three power transformers, cables, and other equipment, were gutted in the fire. Shukla stated, “We cannot estimate the cost of the goods that were destroyed in the fire. We can only assess the damage and disclose it on Saturday. There are residential colonies surrounding the storage area. Residents were asked to evacuate as a precautionary measure. However, there was no damage to the lives or properties of the residents. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.”
