Raipur: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of South East Central Railway’s Nagpur Division has arrested two persons in connection with the theft of gold jewellery worth around ₹4.5 lakh under Operation Yatri Suraksha. Officials handed over the suspects to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Raipur on Sunday.
The theft occurred on 19 July inside coach A-2 of train number 20844 Bhagat Ki Kothi Express. Following a complaint, GRP Raipur registered a case under Section 305(c) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
On the direction of the Divisional Security Commissioner, RPF Nagpur, a joint team comprising the Nagpur Division Task Force and Raipur Division officers, led by the Gondia post-in-charge, launched an investigation. The team analysed CCTV footage from the coach along with footage from Gondia, Rajnandgaon, and Dongargarh railway stations to track down the suspects.
Based on technical evidence, RPF personnel detained Naveen Patel at Dongargarh, Chhattisgarh, on 26 July. During interrogation, his accomplice Nitin Patel, a resident of Dongargarh, was identified and detained after his appearance matched the individual seen in the CCTV footage.
Both suspects confessed to the crime during questioning. Officials later transferred the duo to GRP Raipur for further legal action.
