I don’t want to contest elections, will work where party assigns, says former CM Bhupesh Baghel

Raipur: The Congress party has entrusted the role of senior observer for the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra to former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel. In response to this significant responsibility, Baghel made it clear that he is committed to working diligently wherever the party directs him. Regarding the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Baghel stated, “I don’t want to contest elections. I would prefer to campaign for the candidates selected in Lok Sabha constituencies.”
Apart from his role as the senior observer for the Nyay Yatra, Baghel has also been assigned the responsibility to oversee the ongoing political activities in Bihar. He is scheduled to embark on a journey to Delhi, from where he will travel to Siliguri, West Bengal. During his visit, he plans to meet leaders of the alliance and Congress in the region, followed by a subsequent trip to Bihar, including an overnight stay in Purnia for discussions with alliance leaders.
Baghel emphasized his commitment to working wherever the party assigns him, stating, “The party will decide where we should work, and that’s where we will work. We have already been given the responsibility of the alliance committee, and we have been working consistently. We will also fulfill the responsibilities of the Nyay Yatra.”
Prior to this announcement, the Congress party designated coordinators and supervisors for the Nyay Yatra in Chhattisgarh. Four former ministers, namely Dr. Shivkumar Dahariya, Jaisingh Agrawal, Amarjeet Bhagat, and Umesh Patel, have been appointed as coordinators for the Yatra. All of these leaders have previously served as ministers in the Congress government, and their responsibilities will be allocated based on the regions.
Baghel reiterated, “The party will decide where we should work, and that’s where we will work.”
The Congress party has outlined specific responsibilities for each district during the Nyay Yatra, appointing observers for 14 districts across 7 divisions. Chandradev Ray and Anil Agrawal for Raigarh, Gurumukh Singh Hora and Gulab Kamro for Sakti, Shaillesh Pandey and Vinay Bhagat for Janjgir-Champa, Nobel Verma and U.D. Minz for Korba, Safi Ahmed and Dr. J.P. Srivastava for Surguja, Dr. Premsai Singh and Parasnath Rajwade for Surajpur, and Dr. Preetam Ray and Dvitendra Mishra for Balrampur.
\Nyay Yatra expected to reach Chhattisgarh on February 5
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra by the Congress party is anticipated to enter Chhattisgarh around February 5. This alteration in plans is due to the Yatra not being completed in Assam as initially intended. Initially, there was a possibility that the Congress Yatra would enter Chhattisgarh through Raigarh between February 15 and 18.
Rahul Gandhi, former national president and Member of Parliament, is leading the Nyay Yatra. The Congress aims to conclude the Yatra before the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, currently preparing and organizing for the Nyay Yatra.
