Congress forms election committees for Chhattisgarh; Deepak Baij to lead, includes 18 leaders such as Bhupesh and Singhdeo

Raipur: The Congress has started preparations for the Lok Sabha elections by forming election committees for several states, including Chhattisgarh. In Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel, T S Singhdeo, and 18 other leaders have been included. Congress state president Deepak Baij will lead this committee. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has established election committees for Rajasthan, Kerala, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura. Local leaders have been appointed to these committees, following orders issued by AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal.
\Screening committee
Earlier, the Congress party formed a screening committee on Friday to select its candidates for the Lok Sabha. This committee’s role is to determine the potential candidates from Chhattisgarh. Rajya Sabha MP Rajni Patil will chair the committee, overseeing Chhattisgarh and seven other states. Krishna Allavaru and Pratap Singh are committee members. Their tasks involve the selection of candidates for all 11 Lok Sabha seats. Their role extends from assessing candidates’ claims to their final selection. Congress has categorized all states and union territories into five clusters, with Chhattisgarh part of a cluster that includes Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
Responsibility assigned to Bhupesh-Singhdeo in the ‘National Team’
Recently, the Congress appointed former Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, T S Singhdeo, as the coordinator of the National Manifesto Committee. Singhdeo will play a direct role in planning the Congress’ manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections. This committee includes prominent leaders such as Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Shashi Tharoor, Jairam Ramesh, and Anand Sharma as its members.
Moreover, on December 19, the AICC formed the National Alliance Committee. Former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel, has also been given a role in this committee. The committee comprises a coordinator and five members from the Congress party, responsible for coordinating the alliance. The members include former Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Salman Khurshid, and Mohan Prakash. Mukul Wasnik has been appointed as the coordinator of the National Alliance Committee. The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled for May 2024.
