First Khelo India Tribal Sports National Championship: Chhattisgarh Football Women’s Team struck Gold, made the state proud

Raipur: Performing brilliantly in the first Khelo India Tribal Games National Competition held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh’s women football team has struck ‘Gold’ and brought laurels to the state. In the final match held today between the teams of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh’s team won the gold medal by 2-0 in the tiebreaker. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Sports Minister Umesh Patel have congratulated the members of Chhattisgarh’s women football team for the achievement and extended best wishes for their future endeavours. 

During the final match held in Bhubaneswar, both the teams i.e. of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand played with all their might but none of the teams could score any goal in the stipulated time. The outcome of the match was decided with a tiebreaker, when both the teams were given a chance to score five goals each.

In the tiebreaker round, Kiran Pisda, a practicing player at the Girls Football Academy, Raipur, performed brilliantly and did not give a single chance to the opposing team to score, whereas she and Muskan of Bastar scored one goal each and won the gold medal. Chhattisgarh’s women football team had entered the finals after beating Tripura by 4-0 in the semi-final held on June 11. In the semi-final, Kiran Pisda scored three goals, while Pinky Kashyap of Bastar scored one goal. Sports Secretary Mr. Neelam Namdev Ekka, Sports Director Mrs. Shweta Srivastava Sinha and officials and sports lovers have congratulated all the members of the team for their tremendous performance.

Excellent performance of sportspersons from Chhattisgarh continues

Sportspersons of Chhattisgarh are performing impressively well in ‘Khelo India Tribal Games National Championship’. Kuber Singh of Residential Archery Academy, Bilaspur won the silver medal in the 30 meters category and secured second position in the overall championship. Similarly, Kumari Tarnika Teta, a player of Residential Athletic Academy Bilaspur, won a silver medal in the 100 meter women’s category. It is noteworthy that 5000 athletes from 18 states are participating in this competition being organized in Bhubaneswar.
