Chhattisgarh police busts Indore cyber fraud syndicate, arrest five

Raipur, October 29: The Raigarh Police in Chhattisgarh have busted an interstate cyber fraud syndicate allegedly operating through a call centre in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Five people, including three women, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in duping a local doctor of ₹34.17 lakh through a fake share trading scheme.

The operation was carried out under the direction of Raigarh Senior Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh, with Additional Superintendents of Police Anil Soni and Pushpendra Baghel supervising the special team from the Raigarh Cyber Police Station.

Acting on technical inputs, the police team conducted raids at multiple locations in Madhya Pradesh and apprehended the suspects. The action has led to the detection of two separate cybercrime cases registered at the Raigarh Cyber Police Station.

Doctor Duped of ₹34.17 Lakh in Fake Share Trading Scheme

Dr. Dilip Kumar Mishra, a resident of Sonkarpara in Raigarh, lodged a complaint at the Cyber Police Station on May 27, 2026.

According to his complaint, a man identified as Sunil contacted him by phone in March 2025, promising high returns on share market investments through a platform called Spartan Trade.

To gain his confidence, the fraudsters allegedly shared investment portfolios with him through WhatsApp, showing attractive and continuous profits.

Between April 28, 2025, and April 3, 2026, Dr. Mishra transferred a total of ₹34,17,531 into various bank accounts.

Although the digital portfolio continued to display profits, the doctor was unable to withdraw his invested money. When the accused repeatedly demanded additional investments, he realised that he had been cheated.

Following his complaint, police registered Crime No. 06/2026 under Sections 318(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Mule Bank Accounts and Call Centre Network Uncovered

In the second case, Suraj Sharma, a resident of Hill View Colony in Raigarh, lodged a complaint on September 27, 2026.

He reported that his Punjab National Bank account had received 18 transactions totalling ₹2,97,298 between December 12, 2025, and January 7, 2026.

The account was subsequently frozen after complaints related to the transactions were received from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Punjab.

During the investigation, police allegedly found that Sharma had provided his bank account for transactions linked to cyber fraud in exchange for commissions. These payments were reportedly made in cash and through UPI via Gayatri Vishwakarma, who was operating from Indore.

On September 30, 2026, police registered Crime No. 13/2026 against Sharma and Vishwakarma.

Technical Investigation Leads Police to Indore Call Centre
