Ten policemen and a driver were martyred in a Maoist ambush in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh on Wednesday. The martyred jawans belonged to the District Reserve Guard (DRG) unit. Apart from these, the driver of the vehicle also died in the ambush. The team was heading in a vehicle to rescue the security forces trapped in the rain when the Maoists blew the vehicle using IED.
The attack took place between Aranpur-Sameli under Aranpur police station area of Dantewada district. According to sources, there has also been an encounter between the police and the Naxalites. During this encounter, the Maoists hurled a bomb at the vehicle.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has expressed grief over the attack and said Naxalites will not be spared. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured the chief minister to provide all possible help to Chhattisgarh.
Former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh also expressed deep sorrow over the incident.
The convoy of Congress MLA from Bijapur, Vikram Mandavi, was attacked by Maoists a week ago. Bullets were found on the vehicle in which District Panchayat member Parvati Kashyap was present. MLA Mandavi, District Panchayat member along with Congress leaders had gone to Gangalur. Nukkad Sabha was organized in the weekly Haat Bazaar here on Tuesday. While returning, Naxalites fired at vehicles near Padeda village.
On 3 April 2021, 22 soldiers were martyred and more than 35 were injured in an encounter in Tekalguda of Tarrem police station area of Bijapur district. They were attacked by 350 to 400 Naxalites. A large amount of BGL (Barrel Grenade Launcher) was fired on the jawans. Along with this, weapons were also looted from the soldiers of DRG, CRPF, Cobra Battalion.
Rakeshwar Singh Manhas, a CoBRA jawan was abducted. Weapons were also looted from the jawan. In this encounter, the Naxalites carried out the incident during their TCOC. Later Jawan Rakeshwar Singh was released by the Maoists.
