Raipur Police destroys 194 kg ganja, 1.06 lakh narcotic tablets seized in 83 NDPS cases

Raipur: In a major evidence disposal drive, the Raipur Police Commissionerate destroyed a huge quantity of narcotic drugs seized in 83 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act across police stations in the West Zone.

The destruction was carried out at a power plant in Siltara in accordance with the legal provisions of the NDPS Act, following all prescribed procedures and safety protocols. Police said the seized drugs had been stored in police station malkhanas (evidence storage rooms) for a long time and were disposed of after receiving approval from the competent authority.

The destroyed contraband included 194.242 kg of ganja, 106,652 narcotic tablets and capsules, 337.64 grams of heroin (chitta) and 29 grams of cocaine.

The exercise was supervised by the District-Level Drug Disposal Committee constituted by the Police Headquarters, in compliance with the directives of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The destruction took place in the presence of Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) Sandeep Kumar Patel, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahul Dev Sharma, and District Excise Officer Praveen Verma.

After obtaining clearance from the Environment Department, the seized narcotics were scientifically destroyed through incineration in the power plant furnace, ensuring both public safety and environmental protection.

According to the police, the disposal has helped clear unnecessary seized material from police station malkhanas, improved record management, and created additional secure storage space for future seizures under the NDPS Act.
