FIR Filed Against Anurag Kashyap in Raipur for Alleged Remarks Against Brahmin Community

Raipur, April 22 – A fresh controversy has erupted around filmmaker Anurag Kashyap as an FIR has been registered against him at City Kotwali police station in Raipur. The action follows allegations that Kashyap made objectionable remarks targeting the Brahmin community, which have sparked protests and demands for legal action across various parts of the country.

The complaint was lodged by the Rashtriya Brahmin Mahasangh, whose national president, Pandit Neelkanth Tripathi, accused Kashyap of making casteist and offensive statements that deeply hurt the religious sentiments of Brahmins. Based on the complaint, the police have booked the filmmaker under Sections 196 and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deal with promoting enmity between communities and deliberately hurting religious sentiments.

The controversy stems from Kashyap’s upcoming film Phule, based on social reformers Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule. Following a delay in the film’s release and objections raised by the Censor Board, Kashyap allegedly made remarks on social media targeting the Brahmin community and the CBFC. A particular post, in response to a user comment, is at the center of the outrage.

In his response, Kashyap stated, “I won’t take back what I said, nor do I intend to. You can abuse me all you want… If you still want an apology, then here it is: Brahmins, please spare the women… Decide which kind of Brahmin you want to be. This is my apology.”

The remarks sparked widespread anger, leading to protests in Raipur and elsewhere. On Monday, members of the Brahmin community gathered in Raipur, demanding immediate arrest and strict action against the filmmaker.

Senior BJP leader and Raipur MP Brijmohan Agrawal also condemned Kashyap’s comments, saying, “If you want to live in India, you must go along with the country. Spreading hatred in the name of caste and religion cannot be tolerated.”

As of now, no official statement has been issued by Anurag Kashyap’s legal team. Meanwhile, the controversy surrounding Phule continues, with its release date still uncertain.
