Collectors authorised to declare school holidays amid heavy rain, cyclone threat

RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh school education department has empowered all district collectors to declare holidays in government and private schools based on local weather conditions, following warnings of heavy rainfall and strong winds due to a cyclone.
The school education department’s deputy secretary issued an order to this effect on Monday, 27 October 2026. According to the directive, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall and high-speed winds across several parts of the state.
To ensure student safety during potential emergencies, district collectors will assess weather conditions in their respective jurisdictions and decide on school closures. The state government clarified that the decision to suspend classes will apply to both government and private educational institutions, depending on regional weather conditions and local requirements.
