Traffic police crack down on unruly bus operations in Raipur

Raipur, October 14. The Raipur Traffic Police have issued strict guidelines for bus operators, warning that permits will be cancelled after three documented violations of city traffic regulations.
Dr Archana Jha, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Protocol), chaired a high-level meeting with bus operators, owners and transport associations at the traffic office in Kalibadi on Saturday. The meeting was attended by Regional Transport Officer Ashish Dewangan, Additional DCP (Traffic) Ramkumar Barman, Assistant Commissioners of Police Satish Thakur and Seema Ahirwar, along with municipal corporation officials. Representatives of prominent travel agencies and Chhattisgarh Transport Federation President Anwar Ali were also present.
The administration expressed serious concern over traffic congestion, commuter inconvenience and road accidents caused by buses picking up and dropping off passengers at unauthorised locations along busy roads.
Under the new directives, buses departing from the Inter-State Bus Terminal will not be allowed to stop on roads or near booking counters to pick up passengers. They must halt only at designated bus stops. Operators of All India Tourist Permit buses have been prohibited from operating from the main bus stand or picking up and dropping off passengers like regular stage carriages. Loading goods on bus roofs has also been strictly prohibited.
Buses arriving from Jagdalpur, Dhamtari and Gariyaband must drop passengers at designated locations near MMI Chowk and proceed directly to the bus terminal via Pachpedi Naka, without stopping along the route. City booking counters will no longer be allowed to facilitate unauthorised passenger boarding by stopping buses on the roads.
Similarly, buses travelling to Durg and Bhilai must not stop at Bhatagaon Chowk to pick up passengers after taking a U-turn at Pachpedi Naka.
The authorities have also directed operators to immediately remove non-operational and condemned vehicles from the bus stand, making it clear that the premises cannot be used as a garage. Drivers and owners responsible for parking-related traffic disruptions will face penalties, while repeated violations will lead to cancellation of permits after three documented offences.
Bus operators assured the officials of their cooperation in streamlining traffic movement and ensuring that drivers and conductors comply with the new regulations.
