Over 1,000 Pilgrims Leave for Somnath: CM Vishnu Deo Sai Flags Off Special Swabhiman Yatra Train from Raipur

RAIPUR: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday flagged off a special train from the Raipur railway station, launching the Somnath Swabhiman Sanskritik Yatra. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister described the Somnath Temple as a prime centre of national self-respect, cultural pride, and faith. He noted that despite being destroyed repeatedly by invaders, the temple was rebuilt each time, reflecting the unwavering faith of the citizens.
More than 1,000 prominent citizens, including Padma awardees, artists, and writers from across Chhattisgarh, departed for the Somnath Jyotirlinga on the special train. The pilgrims are carrying soil from various Shaivite shrines and water from sacred rivers across the state to offer to Baba Somnath. Chief Minister Sai prayed for the peace, progress, and prosperity of Chhattisgarh.

The Chief Minister stated that the nation is celebrating the Somnath Swabhiman Parv as a national commemoration from 11 January 2026 to 11 January 2027 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with this journey being organized as part of the celebrations. He also recalled the contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who resolved to rebuild the temple after Independence as a symbol of national unity and cultural renaissance. He added that India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, had dedicated the reconstructed temple exactly 75 years ago.

Culture Minister Rajesh Agrawal stated that the pilgrimage would offer devotees an opportunity to closely experience India’s cultural traditions and national pride. He prayed for the development of both the state and the nation.
Chief Minister Sai interacted with the departing pilgrims, presented them with ceremonial shawls, and wished them a safe journey.
