IPS Santosh Singh honoured with the India Police Award 2022 for the Samvedna campaign of Raigarh.
Dispatch News.
In August 2020, heavy rains inundated the coastal areas of Mahanadi in and around Raigarh. Dozens of villages in police station Pusaur, Saria, Sarangarh and Kosir areas got affected. Police, home guards and flood rescue teams of SDRF shifted hundreds of flood victims in time to temporary relief camps to rescue them from the devastating floods. On the instructions of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, officials of the administration made proper arrangements for food, medical and other essential services in the relief camps. The then Collector Bhim Singh and Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh went to the relief camps and inquired about the arrangements.
IG Bilaspur Dipanshu Kabra directed the police to help regarding the floods. In the discussion, the flood-affected people appealed to the police for help in getting the kutcha houses repaired. He was informed about getting the proper compensation after the damage assessment from the administration and Raigarh Police also assured to aid as much as possible. The Superintendent of Police started the “Samvedna” campaign to collect life-use and rehabilitation items to help the flood victims with public cooperation.
The office of the Chief Minister also shared the widely acclaimed campaign giving relief to the people on social media. Right now, the remarkable “Samvedna” campaign of Raigarh Police has earned the second “India Police Award, 2022” in the Disaster Management category by the prestigious Governance Now of Noida. The Raigarh Police was honoured by the organization by inviting the then Raigarh SP Santosh Singh, who is currently the Superintendent of Police in Korba, to a virtual award ceremony. The institution gives awards in different categories.
In the campaign, people, institutions and police kept providing essential items for distribution to the flood victims in the police station/outpost. Many police officers, including the Superintendent of Police, during flood rescue and subsequent visits to relief camps, possibly due to contact with the infected, had also become Covid positive at that time. With immense public support, all the officials, station in-charges and employees of Raigarh Police reached their goals.
