Congress Plans Economic Blockade in Chhattisgarh on July 22

Raipur

The Congress party has announced an economic blockade and road blockade across Chhattisgarh on July 22, protesting the arrest of Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. The decision was made during a high-level meeting at the Congress headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan, in Raipur, targeting the government, industrialists, and central agencies.

Bhupesh Baghel, addressing a press conference, stated that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested his son at 6 am without prior notice, just hours after the Leader of Opposition attempted to move an adjournment motion in the Assembly regarding tree felling. He called the arrest “illegal” and a “pre-planned strategy” by the BJP.

Baghel alleged that the BJP is targeting Congress leaders to suppress dissent. He cited the cases of Devendra Yadav and leaders from the Satnami community, and the jailing of Kawasi Lakhma, stating these actions aim to silence tribal voices. He also claimed the government intends to hand over Chhattisgarh to Adani.

\BJP Government Exposed, Says State Congress Chief

Chhattisgarh Congress President Deepak Baij stated that the BJP government has been “exposed” before the public, alleging the exploitation of water, forests, and land from Bastar to Surguja. He said law and order have collapsed in the state and the Congress is fighting strongly against the government on all issues.

Baij criticised the government over the Mahadev betting app case, questioning why the main accused, Saurabh and Ravi, have not been arrested and claiming a new app has emerged. He also pointed to the closure of schools, the opening of new liquor shops, and alleged cheating in examinations through the “Jashpur model.”

Baij declared that the Congress will not be intimidated by such actions and is prepared to fight against the “double-engine government.” He condemned the arrest of Chaitanya Baghel, who is not involved in politics, calling it an unacceptable political tactic.
