Sonia Gandhi hints at her retirement from active politics
Raipur
Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi hinted at her retirement from active politics during her address at the 85th plenary session of the party in Atal Nagar Nava Raipur on Saturday. Sonia asserted that with the Bharat Jodo Yatra, her political innings is now at its last stop.
For the first time, Sonia talked about the ups and downs since assuming the chair of the party president. Sonia said that she became the party president for the first time in 1998, she had been experiencing both good and bad. Even today, the same thing is happening, she said.
Be it the party’s performance in 2004 and 2009 or her decision to make Manmohan Singh the Prime Minister, all these had been satisfying moments for her, she said. “For this I got full cooperation of the party workers. What gives me the most satisfaction is that my innings can now come to an end with the Bharat Jodo Yatra. This is a turning point for the party,” she asserted.
Sonia said that Rahul Gandhi has completed a difficult journey. This is a time of challenge for the country and the Congress. Rahul will address on the last day, i.e. Sunday.
AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge said that there is an atmosphere of hatred in the country. The government is selling rail, jail, oil everything to its friends.
