BJP, Congress in spat over Mahtari statue: CM Baghel seeks apology from BJP co-in-charge Nitin Nabin

The ruling Congress and the opposition BJP in Chhattisgarh have entered a verbal duel after BJP’s state co-in-charge Nitin Nabin reportedly insulted ‘Mahtari’. Chief Minister BhupeshBaghel has expressed displeasure for ‘insulting’ Chhattisgarh Mahtari and described the BJP people as robbers and exploiters of the people.

Baghel hit back at Nitin Nabin’s statement and said if Chhattisgarh is out of India. Every state has its own pride, its own culture. The statue of Chhattisgarh Mahtari is installed in Raipur. In the coming time, it will be installed  at all the district headquarters. “We see Chhattisgarh in the form of Mahtari i.e. mother. Like Mother India, Chhattisgarh is Mother for us. They chant the same slogan and also worship,” said the chief minister.

BJP was in power here for 15 years and never did any work to promote the language and culture here. Today 42 tribes live here, never took care of them, but when this government work for the preservation of culture and heritage of the state, BJP becomes uncomfortable, said the chief minister.

The Chief Minister further said the BJP did the work of looting and exploitation for 15 years. “We are proud to be Chhattisgarhia. Nitin Nabinshould apologize to the people of Chhattisgarh. Insults to Chhattisgarh and Chhattisgarhi Mahtari will not be tolerated,” said the chief minister.

Nitin Nabin had said that they talk of Indianismand what is use of installing statues when asked about Chhattisgarh Mahtari statue installed at Raipur collectorate premises. When the women of the state are not safe, then what will happen by installing a statue, Nabin asked.

The Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had on Tuesday unveiled the statue of Chhattisgarh Mahtari made by Raipur Smart City Limited at Collectorate Chowk. On this occasion, he said that Chhattisgarh Mahtari is a symbol of pride, honor and self-respect of our state. The statue has been installed to promote the tradition and folk culture of the soil of Chhattisgarh. He said that the state government has decided to install the statues of Chhattisgarh Mahtari in all the districts. This bronze statue of 11 feet high and weighing 1200 kg, installed in Raipur, was constructed by Padmashree J M Nelson.
