The Saraswati Nagar Police arrested a 19-year-old woman and seized 2.040 kg of ganja worth approximately ₹1 lakh from her possession in the Kukurbeda area of Raipur on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Khushi Dewar, wife of Sundar alias Bundar Dewar and a resident of Dewar Basti, Kukurbeda, was apprehended after police received a tip-off on May 31.
According to police officials, an informer alerted the Saraswati Nagar Police that a woman carrying a consignment of ganja was standing beneath the Kukurbeda overbridge and attempting to sell the contraband.
Acting on the information, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) Sandeep Kumar Patel directed the police team to verify the input and take immediate action. A team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) laid a trap at the location and detained the suspect.
During the search, police recovered 2.040 kg of ganja from a bag in her possession. The contraband, estimated to be worth around ₹1 lakh, was seized following all prescribed legal procedures.
A case has been registered against the accused under Section 20(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 in Crime No. 109/2026.
The woman was later produced before a local court, which remanded her to judicial custody. Police officials stated that the ongoing anti-narcotics drive would continue and efforts were being intensified to curb the illegal drug trade in the city.
