Two youths arrested, juvenile detained within 24 hours in Raipur murder case linked to old rivalry

Raipur: In a major breakthrough, Raipur Police arrested two youths and detained a juvenile within 24 hours of registering a murder case linked to an old rivalry, officials said on Friday.

The accused allegedly murdered 20-year-old Vishal Bagh alias Bittu near the WRS underbridge on the Waltair railway line under the Ganj police station area on May 21. The victim was a resident of Jagruti Nagar under the Khamtarai police station limits.

Police received information on Wednesday about an unidentified man lying dead near the railway tracks above the WRS underbridge. A joint team of the Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit and Ganj police reached the spot and found the body lying in a pool of blood. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had been attacked with a sharp-edged weapon. A case was registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against unidentified persons.

Following directions from Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Cyber) Smritik Rajanala and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Division) Umesh Gupta, police teams launched an intensive investigation. After examining CCTV footage and activating local informers, suspicion fell on Kunal Deep, a resident of Devendra Nagar, who was reportedly last seen with the deceased near the crime scene.

Police detained Kunal Deep and, during sustained interrogation supported by technical and circumstantial evidence, he allegedly confessed to the crime. He also named co-accused Arvind Bagh alias Aashi and a juvenile, stating that the three attacked Vishal due to an old enmity. The accused allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times.

Police recovered the knife believed to have been used in the murder along with three mobile phones connected to the case. The arrested accused have been identified as Arvind Bagh alias Aashi (20), a resident of Jagruti Nagar, Waltair Gate (Khamtarai), and Kunal Deep (19), a resident of Kali Nagar Utkal (Devendra Nagar). A juvenile in conflict with law has also been apprehended.

Police said additional charges under Section 3(5) of the BNS and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act have also been added to the case.
