Teacher to join promoted post a day before retirement as Chhattisgarh HC orders immediate relief

Raipur: In a significant relief to a government school teacher on the eve of her retirement, the Chhattisgarh High Court has directed the state authorities to ensure that she is allowed to join her promoted post by 11:00 AM on June 30, so that she is not deprived of the benefits of her promotion.
The order was passed by a single bench of Justice B.D. Guru while hearing a petition filed by Meena Singh, who was posted at Government Middle School, Bandhiyachua, in Ambikapur block of Surguja district.
According to the petition, the School Education Department had promoted Meena Singh and posted her to Government Middle School, Bandha, in Lakhanpur block. Although she had been relieved from her previous school, she was unable to join her new posting because the Block Education Officer (BEO), Ambikapur, had not technically relieved her from service, preventing her from completing the joining formalities.
After hearing both sides, the High Court directed the authorities to ensure that Meena Singh is permitted to join her promoted post at Government Middle School, Bandha, by 11:00 AM on June 30 under all circumstances.
The court also instructed the state counsel to communicate the order to the concerned District Education Officer (DEO) and the school authorities by 2:15 PM on Monday to facilitate immediate compliance.
Taking note of the urgency of the matter and the teacher’s impending retirement, the High Court directed that the case be listed again on June 30 to verify whether its directions had been complied with.
