Remote Operation Facility Restored at Raipur and Durg-Bhilai SCADA Centres

Raipur, October 19. The Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company has restored the remote operation facility at its SCADA/DMS centres in Raipur and Durg-Bhilai-Charoda to improve power distribution management and ensure a more reliable electricity supply.

The upgraded system enables operators to remotely isolate faulty sections of power lines or feeders instead of shutting down the electricity supply to entire areas. This will help maintain an uninterrupted power supply to unaffected areas connected to other feeders during maintenance and repair work.

Managing Director Bhim Singh Kanwar visited the Raipur SCADA/DMS centre on September 16, 2026, to test the remote operation facility. He successfully verified the remote switching of the 11 kV Dayanand Nagar feeder under the 33/11 kV Daldalsivni substation, along with the 11 kV Ganesh Mandir and Shiv Mandir feeders under the 33/11 kV Khamhardih substation.

Following the successful testing, Kanwar directed officials at the Raipur and Durg-Bhilai-Charoda control rooms to carry out remote operations as required.

With the restored facility, control room operators can now digitally identify fault locations and isolate affected feeder sections remotely. This eliminates the need to deploy field personnel for physical patrolling to trace faults, saving time and helping speed up power restoration.

The SCADA/DMS centres were established under the centrally sponsored Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (RAPDRP). These centres are designed to control 33/11 kV substations and 11 kV feeders across urban areas.

The system supports remote operations for 283 feeders in Raipur and 160 feeders in the Durg-Bhilai region, strengthening electricity distribution management across the two regions.

The remote operation facility had been temporarily suspended on March 20, 2024, due to cybersecurity requirements. Under the guidance of Managing Director Bhim Singh Kanwar, the control centres upgraded their hardware, firewalls and antivirus protocols.

Subsequently, an external audit agency conducted a cybersecurity audit. After implementing all critical safety recommendations, the system was re-enabled for remote operations, ensuring compliance with essential cybersecurity requirements.

During the testing process, Executive Director (EITC) A.M. Pariyal, Chief Engineer (Raipur City Area) Sanjeev Singh, General Manager (Finance) Naveen Kumar Thakur, Additional Chief Engineer (CSDC) Sharda Rani, Additional Chief Engineer (EITC) G.K. Gangwani, and other senior officials were present.
