Raipur police restrict goods vehicles movement for Ganeshotsav

Raipur: Police Commissionerate has issued directives extending entry and movement restrictions on goods vehicles across the city until 27 September 2026 to manage traffic during Ganeshotsav celebrations in the state capital Raipur.

Large crowds gathering across major intersections to view Ganesh idols prompted the traffic police to amend earlier restrictions under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The revised rules aim to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow.

Light goods vehicles, including pickups, Tata Ace models, and auto trailers, face expanded prohibition in the Telghani Naka and railway station areas. The daily restriction window now runs from 5 pm to 11 pm, extending the previous two-hour window.

Six specific stretches remain closed to light goods vehicles during these hours:

  • Agrasen Chowk to Bhaisthan route towards Telghani Naka Chowk
  • Rathore Chowk to Telghani Naka Chowk
  • Fafadih Chowk to Station Chowk and Telghani Naka Chowk
  • Chunabatti to Gudhiyari underbridge via Narmadapara to Station Chowk exit gate
  • Karma Chowk Ramnagar to Telghani Naka Chowk via Ramnagar bridge and underbridge
  • Naharpara Sanjay Gandhi Chowk towards Station Gurudwara

Commuters traveling through these zones can use an alternative route via Fafadih Chowk, Shastri Chowk, Mahila Thana Chowk, Budheshwar Chowk, Lakhe Nagar Chowk, Ashram Tiraha, Aamapara Tiraha, and Agrasen Chowk.

Medium and heavy goods vehicles entering the city from Ring Road 01 and Ring Road 02 face expanded restrictions. Police extended the prohibition window from 5 am to 2 am the following morning across 19 major entry points.

The restricted entry points along Ring Road 01 and Ring Road 02 include:

  • Opposite Telibandha Police Station Chowk
  • Canal Road entry route on Ring Road 01
  • Mahavir Nagar Chowk on Ring Road 01
  • Rajendra Nagar Chowk on Ring Road 01
  • Pachpedi Naka Chowk on Ring Road 01
  • Santoshi Nagar Chowk on Ring Road 01
  • Bhatagaon Chowk on Ring Road 01
  • Kushalpur Chowk on Ring Road 01
  • Raipura Chowk on Ring Road 01
  • DD Nagar entry route on Ring Road 01
  • Arihant Nagar entry route on Ring Road 01
  • Tatibandh Chowk
  • Hirapur turning on Ring Road 02
  • Gogaon Tiraha on Ring Road 02
  • Gondwara Tiraha on Ring Road 02
  • In front of Patidar Bhavan, Bhanpuri
  • VIP Tiraha on Vidhan Sabha Road
  • Under Expressway bridge from Ring Road 01
  • Kachna railway crossing

Standard traffic orders enforced earlier on 6 September 2026 will resume on 28 September 2026 following the conclusion of the festival.
