Raipur police rescue abducted man from UP in 12-hour operation, arrest three

RAIPUR: Raipur police rescued a man abducted over a financial and vehicle dispute within 12 hours of receiving a complaint and arrested three suspects from Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday morning.

Anita Rai, a resident of DM Tower in Rawanbhata under Khamtarai police station, filed a missing person report at around 9 pm on Friday after her husband, Prateek Rai, failed to return home and his mobile phone remained switched off.

Police examined CCTV footage from the area and found that at around 2:28 pm on Friday, three unidentified men allegedly forced Prateek Rai into a black Mahindra Scorpio bearing a Uttar Pradesh registration number.

Following instructions from Raipur Police Commissioner Sanjeev Shukla and Additional Police Commissioner Amit Tukaram Kamble, police launched an investigation under the direction of DCP North Zone Deepmala Kashyap and the supervision of ACP Urla Purnima Lamba.

Khamtarai police tracked the vehicle through technical surveillance and found that the suspects were heading towards Uttar Pradesh. Raipur police contacted Ahraura police station in Mirzapur district and shared the vehicle’s location data and toll plaza inputs.

Police set up alerts and checkpoints along the route, including Chopan and Robertsganj. Acting on the information, Ahraura police intercepted the vehicle, rescued Prateek Rai, and took the three suspects into custody.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the abduction was linked to a dispute over money and a vehicle.

The accused were identified as Abhay Singh (28), a resident of Barabanki; Brihaspat Dev Singh (27), a resident of Sehore; and Adarsh Singh (24), a resident of Pratappur in Uttar Pradesh.

A Khamtarai police team, led by Inspector Jitendra Jaiswal, has left for Uttar Pradesh to secure custody of the accused and bring them to Raipur for further legal proceedings.
