Raipur police book 151 for drunk driving in two-hour crackdown

Raipur: Raipur Traffic Police booked 151 motorists for drunk driving across nine locations on the night of 18 April. The operation lasted two hours.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Protocol) Vikas Kumar led the initiative. Raipur district recorded 2,456 cases under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act in 2026. This figure exceeds the total number of actions taken during any single year in the district’s history.
Authorities stated the primary objective is to prevent road accidents and save lives, not to collect penalties.

Police urged citizens to refrain from driving under the influence. Citizens should use cabs or seek assistance from a designated driver if intoxicated. Traffic officials confirmed that surprise enforcement campaigns will continue to ensure road safety.
