Raipur/Pahalgam, April 22 – A wave of shock and grief swept through Chhattisgarh as Raipur-based businessman Dinesh Mirania was killed in a brutal terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir on Tuesday. Mirania, who was on a vacation with his wife and two children, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital following the attack.
The incident occurred around 2:45 PM in the scenic Baisaran Valley, often dubbed ‘Mini Switzerland’. Terrorists, reportedly dressed in army uniforms, opened indiscriminate fire on a group of tourists. According to media sources, they first asked one tourist his name before shooting him in the head and then targeting others. The attack claimed 26 lives, including tourists from Italy, Israel, and several Indian states such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha. Lashkar-e-Taiba has taken responsibility for the massacre.
Confirming Mirania’s death, Raipur Collector Gaurav Singh stated that the family is currently in Jammu & Kashmir. Police have been deployed at the businessman’s Azad Chowk residence in Raipur, where relatives have gathered in mourning.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai condemned the “cowardly” terrorist attack, offering condolences and wishing a swift recovery to the injured. “Such evil intentions of terrorists will never succeed. Our security forces will give a strong reply,” he said on social media platform X.
Home Minister Vijay Sharma said CM Sai has taken prompt action and directed officials to extend full support to the Mirania family. BJP State President Kiran Singh Deo also denounced the attack, affirming that the central government is resolute in its mission to eliminate terrorism. He added that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reached Kashmir for an on-ground review.
Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel called the attack “tragic and cowardly.” He noted that media reports indicate over 30 casualties, including a member of Raipur’s Mirania family. “We pray for the recovery of the injured and peace for the departed souls,” he posted.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack, stating, “Those behind this heinous act will not be spared. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unwavering and will only grow stronger.”
