Raigarh Police paste notice at absconding fake liquor kingpin’s house

Raipur

Raigarh Police on Wednesday carried out a raid at the residence of absconding accused Vinay Singh Thakur, the prime suspect in an illegal fake liquor factory case unearthed in Dhanagar village earlier this month.

A police team pasted a legal notice at Thakur’s house in Vikas Nagar, directing him to present himself at the Kotraroad Police Station within three days. SSP Shashi Mohan Singh directed officials to compile details of Thakur’s movable and immovable assets for further legal action.

The action follows a joint raid by Raigarh Police and the Excise Department on 8 June 2026, which busted an organised counterfeit liquor network operating in Dhanagar under the Kotraroad police station limits. Officials seized 240 litres of fake liquor packed in 869 bottles, along with spirit drums, caps, fake labels, holograms, and packaging materials.

The police initially arrested prime accused Dushyant alias Pappu Patel, who revealed during interrogation that he operated the racket with his brother Subhash Patel and Vinay Singh Thakur. Subhash Patel was later arrested from his farmhouse on 10 June 2026. Investigations revealed that the gang stockpiled liquor at a farmhouse, diluted it with industrial spirit, and used tea-leaf decoction to mimic the colour of genuine liquor before distributing it through local vendors using counterfeit holograms.

A team led by City Superintendent of Police Mayank Mishra and DSP Sushanto Banerjee raided Thakur’s house in Vikas Nagar Street No. 3. Finding the house locked and family missing, the team pasted the appearance notice on the doors.

The raid included Kotwali Police Station in-charge Inspector Sukhnandan Patel, Kotraroad Police Station in-charge Inspector Sheel Kumar Aditya, and Inspector Amit Tiwari.

SSP Shashi Mohan Singh said:

“The trade of counterfeit liquor is a grave offence that directly threatens public health and human lives. Raigarh Police will enforce strict legal measures, including attachment of properties, to ensure the absconding accused is brought to justice.”
