Patwari Caught Red-Handed Taking ₹25,000 Bribe in Surajpur

A patwari was caught red-handed on Wednesday while allegedly accepting a ₹25,000 bribe in Surajpur district, officials said. The action was carried out by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Ambikapur.
The complainant, Rup Singh, a resident of Marhata village (Surajpur), alleged that land registered in his and his sister’s names in Sendhopara village under Pratappur tehsil had been acquired for the Mahamaya coal mine project in Jarhi.
According to the complaint, Patwari Saurabh Goswami had demanded a ₹25,000 bribe in exchange for preparing the patwari report required for mutation and employment-related work.
After verification of the complaint, the ACB team laid a trap on April 22, 2026, and caught the accused while taking the bribe amount from the complainant.
The accused has been arrested, and further action is being taken under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (amended in 2018).
