Raipur: Justice Krushna Ram Mahapatra was on Monday sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court, succeeding Justice Ramesh Sinha, who retired recently.
Governor Ramen Deka administered the oath of office to Justice Mahapatra at a ceremony held at the Chhattisgarh Mandapam at Lok Bhavan here. Prior to his appointment, Justice Mahapatra was a senior judge of the Orissa High Court.
After administering the oath, Governor Deka handed over to Justice Mahapatra the original warrant of appointment issued by the President and extended his greetings and best wishes.
Justice Mahapatra will be the 16th Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, School Education Minister Gajendra Yadav, Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Tokhan Sahu, former chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, former governor Ramesh Bais, Rajya Sabha MP Laxmi Verma and MLAs Sunil Soni and Anuj Sharma, among other public representatives.
Justice Mahapatra’s wife, Anita Mahapatra, and judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court were also present.
Chief Secretary Vikas Sheel conducted the proceedings and read out the warrant issued by the President. Additional Chief Secretary Subrat Sahu, Principal Secretary (Home) Niharika Barik, Director General of Police Arun Dev Gautam, Governor’s Secretary Dr CR Prasanna, Advocate General Vivek Sharma and High Court Registrar General Rajneesh Srivastava were among the senior officials and lawyers present at the ceremony.
