NMC sanctions 100 seats to Kanker Medical College
Raipur:No permission to give admission in Korba and Mahasamundmedical colleges as NMC was unhappy with facilities here.
National Medical Commission (NMC) has given a go ahead to Kanker Medical College, Chhattisgarh to give admission to eligible candidates on 100 MBBS seats. It is worthwhile to mention, the medical college got recognition only last year. At the same time, applications for recognition of admission in Mahasamund and Korba Medical Colleges have been canceledby the NMC.
According to Health Minister T S Singhdeo , approval for a new medical college in Kanker has been received. This college with 100 MBBS seats will strengthen the health system of the area along with the education of medical students.
Officials said the government had sought the commission’s permission for admission to 100 seats each of MBBS in newly recognised medical colleges in Kanker, Korba and Mahasamundrespectively.
Medical Assessment Rating Board and UG Expert Medical Group had inspected the three medical colleges on August 23 and 24. Some shortcomings were found in it. The committee had given 21 days to improve it. Mahasamund Medical College gave an online presentation on October 18, but it didn’t work out for them. Now Mahasamund and Korba Medical College will have to wait till the next session for admission to MBBS seats.
\Shortcomings found in medical colleges
Medical Assessment Rating Board and UG Expert Medical Group have said that there is no appointment of Professor of Anatomy in the Medical College. Posts of Associate Professor are vacant in some departments like Respiratory Medicine, Forensic Medicine, Physiology. Some deficiencies could not be overcome even in the laboratory.
Now 8 government medical colleges in state
With the recognition of admission, now the number of government medical colleges in Chhattisgarh has increased to eight. MBBS studies were already going on in six medical colleges. This year the government acquired the private medical college of Durg. Then this number increased to 7. Now the recognition of admission has also been given in the medical college of Kanker. Earlier, MBBS education was being conducted in Raipur, Raigarh, Rajnandgaon, Bilaspur, Ambikapur, Jagdalpur and Durg.
