Vaccination must for polling agents for upcoming civic body polls

Raipur: The state
election commission has given special instructions to all districts to take
extra precautions related to Covid-19 in the upcoming civic body polls.

Election Commissioner Thakur
Ram Singh said that no person will be appointed as a polling agent without
getting both doses of the vaccine. He said this while reviewing the
preparations for the elections in the Durg district today. He said that all the
candidates participating in the elections should pay special attention to the
fact that all their polling agents must have received both doses of the
vaccine compulsorily. It is mandatory for them to present the certificate of
vaccination.

He said that health
workers would be present in all 1035 polling booths. For which they will also
be given an honorarium by the commission.

It is noteworthy that
in total 370 wards of 15 municipalities, general elections and 15 wards of 15
urban bodies, by-elections will be conducted. This time 100% online nomination
papers were filed and 1393 candidates will be in the fray. As many as 3, 87,530
male voters, 3, 90,843 female voters, 47 other voters and a total of 7, 78,420
voters will exercise their franchise in the upcoming elections.

Similarly, in the
by-election, 12689 male voters, 13075 female voters, 03 other voters, and a
total of 25767 voters will exercise their franchise. The electoral roll
containing the photo of the voters has been prepared by the commission. A total
of 1,000 polling stations have been earmarked for general elections and 35
polling stations for by-elections. Voters are allowed to use 18 types of
documents as identity cards.
