School Education Department launches two new campaigns on the first day of the New Year

Chhattisgarh School Education Department has launched two new campaigns
including a 100-day campaign for the development of children’s reading and
mathematical skill and Skill Hub Initiative program–a vocational educational
course for school drop outs–on the occasion of New Year’s on Saturday.

Panchayat
and Rural Development Minister TS Singh Deo and School Education Minister Dr
Premsai Singh Tekam virtually attended a programme organized at the Government
Higher Secondary School, Ambikapur District Headquarters and launched both
these campaigns on the occasion.

In
the programme organized at the Mayaram Surjan Government Girls Higher Secondary
School in Raipur, School Education Secretary Dr. Kamal Preet Singh, Samagra
Shiksha Managing Director Narendra Dugga along with the principal, teachers and
parents of the school concerned attended the programme. Teachers parents and
principals from all the districts also attended the programme virtually.

Panchayat
and Rural Development Minister TS Singh Deo while congratulating everyone on
the New Year’s said that the state government has decided to start both these
schemes keeping in view the current needs of children. Children’s education and mental development were most affected during the Corona pandemic period.
Undoubtedly, due to the efforts of the state government and the teachers, the
education of the children continued in the state. The government decided to
open the school to overcome the loss of learning for children due to the
closure of the school during the pandemic. The Department of School Education has
taken concrete steps to bridge the huge gap by starting a 100-day Reading,
Mathematical Skill Development Programme. This will benefit the upcoming
generation and will improve the intellectual level of children. Besides, the
other campaign will ensure a better future for youth through skill upgradation.

Announcing
the launch of both the schemes, School Education Minister Dr Premsai Singh
Tekam said that a state-wide 100-day reading and mathematical skill development
programme will be started from today to reduce the loss of learning for
children due to the closure of schools during the corona pandemic. This hundred-day
programme has been designed in three levels. The first level covers children
from Anganwadi to class II, the second level from classes III to V, and the
third level includes children from classes VI to VIII. This programme is
divided into 14 weeks. For each week, a separate theme will be shared in
Language and Mathematics. The material prescribed for the week will be
practiced with cooperation of the community, both inside and outside the
classroom.

He
added that the Skill Hub Initiative programme for school dropouts is being
initiated for the first time in the state at school level which is based on
holistic education and vocational education. Under this, a total of 86 schools
in the state have been selected by the Government of India. In the first phase,
18 schools from 17 districts of the state have been selected. Through the skill
center, skill development training will be provided to the school dropout
students in the age group of 15 to 29 on the available vocational courses to develop
and enhance their potential so that they can use these acquired skills in the future to earn a living or in other educational activities.

Tekam
said that the work of connecting the school drop outs to the mainstream of
education will also be done through the skill center. In this training
programme, there will be one batch of maximum 40 students from each school. The
total duration of the training to certification program will be 6 months. The
training will be conducted for about two hours each day after school timing and
on weekly off.

School
Education Secretary Dr. Kamal Preet Singh has asked the teachers to work on a
war footing in this 100 day long campaign. Children should also pay special
attention to studies for 3 months. On the instructions of Chief Minister
Bhupesh Baghel, the Skill Hub Initiative program is being conducted to provide
employment-oriented training to school dropout children. ITI and
polytechnic colleges have also been included in this initiative. Along with
studies, youth can also take training for getting employment. He said that the
next hundred days are crucial and we have to make the most of it. Managing
Director Samagra Shiksha Narendra Dugga also addressed the program.
