Koria:The brainchild of SP Santosh Kumar Singh, ‘Nijaat’, is yielding overwhelming results in Koriya district since its inception in July this year.


Campaign ‘Nijaat’, a brainchild of SantoshKumar Singh, Superintendent of Police, Koriya, is proving to be effective in getting rid of drugs, narcotics and illicit liquor menace. The Urdu word, Nijaat’, means redemption or savesomeone from evilhas been able to save people from evil of addiction. The campaign, started in July, 2021, is garnering huge public support in the district. Koriya police jawans are not only making people aware on de-addiction under the campaign but trying to ensure active participation of people in the same. The campaign has ensured participation of people from all walks of life. 

Strict action is being taken against people when it is necessary to destroy the habit of addition among people. As part of the campaign, 17 motorcycles, one bullet and one four-wheeler, which were used in the use of illegal drugs business, were seized from July this year to date. With it, 149 people were arrested in 130 cases under the NDPS Act and 435 persons were arrested in 420 cases filed under Excise Act. A record number of cases were filed in the past four months creating panic among people engaged in illegal business of drugs. 

Even renowned artists from Bollywood and Chollywood, including Prabhu DevaArbazKhan, Rajpal YadavVirendra Saxena, Sunil Grover, Kailash KherBhagwan TiwariShahvar Ali, Yash Ajay Singh, Paritosh Tripathiand Folk singer Dilip SharangiRakesh Sharma, Mona Sen, Sunil TiwariAnchal Sharma, AnujSharma, Teejan BaiMamta ChandrakarZakirHussainGopal K Singh, Yogesh AgrawalPrakash Awasthi and public representatives are helping Koriya Polilce to make people aware.

It is to be mentioned, Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Dr Charandas Mahant parliamentary secretary and Baikunthpur MLA AmbikaSinghdeoSurguja Development Authority vice chairman and Bharatpur MLA Gulab Kamro, and Manendragarh MLA Vinay J aiswal were present at the time of the inauguration of the campaign ‘Nijaat’. 

Villagers are making large wall paintings in their respective villages to give messages to the people to stay away from addiction. Rangolimade during Diwali and Chhat festivals depicted messages on de-addiction and its benefits. Cycle and bike rallies are being organised as part of the awareness campaign. On October 26, 2021, Surguja Range IG Ajay Yadav inaugurated a OST Centre at District Hospital, Baikunthpur where addicted people are being provided treatment and conselling on how they can start a new life and join the mainstream society. Youths of the district recently met with the SP Santosh Kumar Singh to express their gratitude for his work under ‘Nijaat’ campaign. Famous Youtuber 12-year-old Om Agrahari has prepared a video song on the campaign. A Rap song has also been recorded to draw attention of the youth towards the campaign apart from a documentary short film. 

This campaign has brought cheers on the faces of many families in Koriya district. Koriyapolice providing counselling service to the addicted people and showing them path to overcome the problem. This campaign has changed life of many people in the district. 

Some people shared their experience on how they got addicted for different reasons and were rescued by Koriya police under the campaign ‘Nijaat’. 

Mukesh Kumar Sahu, 22, resident of Sonhat, who started consuming liquor in Class X after coming in contact with some anti-social elements, said that he is now freed from addiction and will never touch any kind of drugs. 

30 years old Rahul Singh, a resident of DhumadahSonhat, said that he turned a habitual drinker, but now he has overcome it. He gave credit to the Koriya police  for carrying out the campaign ‘Nijaat

42-year-old Kuldeep Chouhan, a resident Hirgirunder Chirmiri police station, used to consumer liquor, ganja. He is now a family man. He thanked City SP P P Singh, Thana In-charge K K Shukla and other police personnel who helped him get rid of addiction.

Similarly, 25-year-old Ammu Kumar,  26-year-old Rajinder, both residents of Dafai Podi and 18-year-old Rohit Pandey, a resident of KoriyaPalace, Junapara, were addicted with different intoxicated items, but thanks to Koriya police’s ‘Nijaat’ campaign which helped these youths to overcome it.
