CM Baghel, Speaker Dr Mahant pay tribute to former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri on his death anniversary
Raipur:Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr Charandas Mahantpaid tributes to the former Prime Minister of India, LalBahadur Shastri on his death anniversary on Tuesday. School Education Minister Dr Premsai Singh Tekamalso paid tributes to the former Prime Minister at Chief Minister’s residence in Raipur.
Remembering the contribution of Lal Bahadur Shastri, Chief Minister Baghel said that the contribution of the former Prime Minister to India’s freedom struggle is incomparable. Besides, Shastri Ji an actively participated in the important movements of the India’s freedom struggle and due to this he had to go to jail several times. His slogan of Jai Jawan-Jai Kisanbrought honour for the soldiers laid their lives while protecting nation and farmers feeding the nation, said the Chief Minister.
Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr Charandas Mahant also paid tributes to Shastri Ji. Dr Mahant described him as the leader of Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan.
Dr Mahant said that the second Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri was a famous Indian statesman, great freedom fighter. He was such a personality who, as the Prime Minister, not only gifted the country with military glory but also showed the path of Green Revolution and industrialization. When he became the Prime Minister of India in 1964, the country used to import food items. India was dependent on North America for grain. In 1965, during the war with Pakistan, there was a severe drought in the country. In his first press conference, he had said that his first priority was to stop the rise in food prices. Seeing the situation at that time, he appealed to the countrymen to observe a day’s fast and he gave slogan ‘Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan‘.
