Durg police registered an FIR following the circulation of an AI-generated video featuring former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and former deputy secretary Saumya Chaurasia. Congress workers filed complaints at eight police stations across the district, leading to the ban of Instagram accounts involved.
The Durg police booked the account holder under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Officers have initiated a probe to identify the creators and original uploaders of the video. The Instagram pages “Congress Pol Khol” and “Random Chhattisgarh” were removed from the platform.
District Congress Committee (Rural) president Rakesh Thakur demanded swift action against the accused. Party members met SSP Vijay Agarwal on 26 April to raise objections. Activists also submitted formal complaints at multiple police stations including Jamgaon R, Kumhari, Bhilai-3, Nandini Nagar, Ahivara, Jamul, Dhamdha, Anda, Jevra Sirsa, and Ranitarai.
The Chhattisgarh State Women’s Commission took cognizance of the matter, calling it a sensitive issue. The commission directed the cyber cell to trace the origin of the video and identify those responsible for its circulation. It emphasized that misuse of technology, especially to harm the reputation of women, is a serious criminal offence.
