Raipur: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW)/Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Chhattisgarh Police has seized two trucks allegedly used for illegal transportation of liquor during the COVID-19 lockdown as part of its ongoing probe into the state’s alleged liquor scam.
According to investigating officials, liquor was allegedly transported from NV Distilleries to various hotels and bars in Raipur and Durg during March and April 2020, when the lockdown was in force. The liquor was allegedly moved using two trucks bearing registration numbers CG04-MF-1274 and CG04-MC-2618.
Officials said excise personnel allegedly facilitated the movement of the liquor, which was subsequently sold at inflated prices to generate funds for the alleged syndicate.
Both vehicles belong to Shri Sai Transport, owned by Dinesh Agarwal. The trucks are currently being used for transporting LPG cylinders, officials said.
With the latest seizure, the EOW/ACB has so far seized 26 vehicles allegedly linked to the liquor scam.
The case was registered under Crime No. 04/2024 under Sections 7 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, as amended in 2018, along with Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 467, 468 and 471 (forgery) of the Indian Penal Code.
The investigation into the alleged liquor scam and the role of individuals involved in the illegal transportation and sale of liquor is continuing.
