Relief to suspended IPS G P Singh as SC upholds HC’s bail grant 

Raipur:Suspended IPS officer Gurjinder Pal Singh has been provided a major relief when the Supreme Court rejected the plea of the state government challenging the bail granted to Singh from the High Court of Chhattisgarh. The state government had filed a plea in the Apex Court challenging the bail granted by the High Court to the suspended IPS. The Supreme Court said the bail granted to the suspended IPS officer by the High Court will continue.

It may be recalled that the High Court had granted bail to the suspended IPS officer on May 12. G P Singh was arrested in connection with disproportionate assets case. The court granted bail to Singh on certain conditions.

State Economic Offence Investigation and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SEOIACB) had registered FIR against Singh, a 1994-batch IPS officer, under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act on June 29 last year after preliminary findings into complaints that he had allegedly amassed disproportionate assets. Later, the agency carried a three-day search at around 15 locations linked to the officer from July 1 to July 3 (2021) and claimed to have discovered movable and immovable assets worth around Rs 10 crore. Based on the documents recovered during the raids, Raipur police also registered a case on charges of sedition and promoting enmity against Singh, who was suspended on July 5.
