Bijapur, Monday night — A constable posted at the Reserve Centre in Bijapur allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with his issued service rifle near the Bijapur police station on Monday night.
According to police sources, the incident took place between 8:45 pm and 9:00 pm. The deceased has been identified as Constable Dilip Telam, who was serving at the Reserve Centre. He reportedly used his issued rifle to fire the fatal shot.
Soon after the incident, police personnel rushed to the spot and shifted him for medical examination, where doctors declared him dead.
Prima facie, family-related issues are suspected to be the reason behind the suicide. However, officials said the exact cause will be known only after a detailed investigation.
The Kotwali police station has registered the case and further investigation is underway.
