Opposition BJP’s attempt to gherao VidhanSabha foiled

Thousands of PM Awas Yojana beneficiaries under the banner of BJP staged dharna.

About one lakh people, including more than 75 per cent beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, under the banner of BJP attempted to gherao the Vidhan Sabha in protest against Chhattisgarh government’s failure to give houses to the needy under the Yojana. However, heavy police force deployed to control the law and order foiled the attempt of the BJP workers and beneficiaries to reach the Vidhan Sabha. Senior BJP leaders, including state president Arun Sao, former chief minister Dr Raman Singh, leader of opposition Narayan Chandel, party’s state incharge Om Mathur, co-inchargeNitin Nabin, MLAs Brijmohan Agrawal, Ajay Chandrakar, MP Sunil Soni, Santosh Pandey, Vijay Baghel, Shivratan Sharma and former MLA Rajesh Munat and former Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das, actively participated in the gherao event.

Addressing the party workers, Mathur said that the state government has to change here and they will continue such movements till November this year. Chhattisgarh is going to assembly elections this year end.

On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata YuvaMorcha members broke the barricades installed on the road to prevent agitators to reach the Vidhan Sabha. 

Raghuvar Das said that it has become clear from today’s event that the people of the state are in a mood for change. He said Raman Singh did the work of building houses for 7.5 lakh homeless. Today this public is asking this state government as to how many people it has given accommodation.  Liquor syndicate is running here under the protection of the government. Coal Syndicate is running. This is also going on in Jharkhand.

Former CM Raman Singh said that  the officials of the state government are serving jails following ED and IT raids. He said that if houses are not given, they will change the government and provide houses to 16 lakh beneficiaries who have been deprived of by this government. 

Addressing the gathering, BJP State President Arun Sao said that the people demand for their rights. He said that whoever becomes the Chief Minister of BJP will first sign for the Prime Minister’s residence. Then will go to the Chief Minister’s residence. Sao said – Congress never worried about the poor in the villages. 

Leader of Opposition Narayan Chandel had said that the state government makes only hollow claims. 

Normal traffic movement on all roads leading to the assembly remained closed till 8 pm.
