Burqa-Clad Thief Steals Rs 30 Lakh from Raipur Showroom, Suffers Possible Injury While Escaping

Raipur: A daring theft took place at the Shri Shivam clothing showroom in Pandri, under the Civil Lines police station area, where a burqa-clad thief allegedly stole Rs 30 lakh before making a dramatic escape. The incident occurred between the night of March 31 and April 1.

Thief’s Disguise Raises Suspicion

An individual dressed in a burqa entered the five-story showroom around 9:30 PM, interacting with employees in a suspicious manner. The person attempted to mimic a female voice, further arousing doubt. However, before employees could confront the individual, they mysteriously disappeared. Assuming the person had left, the staff eventually closed the showroom and went home.

Theft Discovered Next Morning

When employees returned the next morning, they found the ground-floor cash counter’s lock broken and Rs 30 lakh missing. Shocked, they immediately informed the police. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, it was revealed that the thief had hidden inside a first-floor storeroom until closing time.

Cunning Execution and Risky Escape

At around 11 PM, after the showroom had shut, the thief emerged from hiding and broke into the ground-floor cash locker, stealing the money. To escape, the thief climbed to the 5th-floor roof, broke the lock on the rooftop door, and attempted to descend using a rope tied to the railing.

Police suspect that the rope snapped mid-descent due to haste, causing the thief to fall from the 3rd floor to the ground. Some accomplices, reportedly waiting outside, helped the injured thief flee the scene—still clad in the burqa.

Police Investigation Underway

Authorities suspect that the thief was wearing gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints. Investigators believe the gloves may have torn during the escape attempt, contributing to the rope’s failure. The Crime Branch and Civil Lines police teams have gathered crucial evidence and are actively working on the case.

Further investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend the thief and their accomplices.
