Bike-borne miscreants snatch phone of former Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik in Raipur

Raipur: Bike-borne miscreants snatched the mobile phone of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik in Raipur on Monday morning.

The incident took place near the PWD Bridge under the Civil Lines police station limits when Kaushik was out for a morning walk. The miscreants allegedly approached from behind and fled with the device before the BJP leader could react. Raipur Police have confirmed the incident.

Police scan CCTV footage

Kaushik immediately informed the police after the incident. A police team reached the spot and launched an investigation. Investigators are currently scanning nearby CCTV footage to identify the accused.

Police officials suspect that the miscreants may have monitored Kaushik’s routine before carrying out the crime. Police teams have been deployed to trace the accused, and officials said arrests will be made soon.

Congress flags rising crime

Reacting to the incident, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee communication department chief Sushil Anand Shukla questioned the effectiveness of the newly implemented police commissionerate system in Raipur.

Shukla said the incident occurred despite a high alert in the city. He alleged that crime has increased since the commissionerate system was introduced and claimed that police are more focused on issuing traffic challans than maintaining law and order.
