ACB traps Kurud revenue office clerk accepting Rs 10,000 bribe in Dhamtari

Raipur: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Monday caught an Assistant Grade-3 clerk posted at the Sub-Divisional Officer (Revenue)-cum-Magistrate office in Kurud, Dhamtari district, red-handed while allegedly accepting a Rs 10,000 bribe.

The accused, identified as Puneshwar Suryavanshi, had allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from Prakash Chandrakar, a resident of Shikshak Colony in Dhamtari district.

Chandrakar had applied to the Kurud revenue office for diversion of his agricultural land in Kangarpuri village for commercial purposes. Suryavanshi allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 to process his application.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, Chandrakar approached the ACB office in Raipur and lodged a complaint. During verification, the clerk allegedly agreed to accept the bribe in instalments and fixed the first instalment at Rs 10,000.

The ACB subsequently laid a trap on Monday, October 5, and caught Suryavanshi red-handed while allegedly accepting the first instalment of Rs 10,000 from the complainant.

The ACB arrested the clerk and initiated further legal proceedings against him under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.
