The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday appointed Karamveer Singh as its state general secretary (organisation) in Chhattisgarh, bringing an experienced RSS functionary into a key organisational position in the state.
The appointment was announced by BJP national president Nitin Nabin through an official directive issued from the party’s central office in New Delhi. Singh will be based at the BJP state headquarters in Raipur and has been asked to assume charge with immediate effect.
Singh was serving as the BJP’s state general secretary (organisation) in Jharkhand, a position he had held since August 2022. His appointment in Chhattisgarh marks his return to the party’s organisational responsibilities in a state outside Uttar Pradesh after his tenure in Jharkhand.
A long-time Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak, Singh began his organisational work in 1993 from the birthplace of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay. During more than three decades in the RSS organisational structure, he handled responsibilities at various levels in Uttar Pradesh, including serving as tehsil, nagar and district pracharak in Mathura. He also worked as mahanagar pracharak in Fatehpur Sikri and Aligarh.
Originally from Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh, Singh subsequently handled department-level responsibilities in Etah, Aligarh and Bareilly. He was appointed joint state pracharak for Meerut prant in 2015 and later held the same responsibility for Braj prant from 2019.
Singh formally joined the BJP’s organisational setup in Uttar Pradesh in 2020 as state joint general secretary (organisation). He was subsequently shifted to Jharkhand in August 2022, where he served as state general secretary (organisation) until his latest appointment.
The general secretary (organisation) is a key organisational position in the BJP, responsible for coordinating the party’s organisational machinery and maintaining links between its political and grassroots structures.
The latest appointment is part of a series of organisational changes announced by the BJP across several state units. The central directive was signed by Tarun Chugh, in-charge of the party’s national headquarters.
