Police arrested two men from Odisha and seized 18.33 kg of cannabis valued at ₹9.16 lakh near the Lalpur overbridge on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off about two individuals attempting to sell contraband under the Tikrapara police station limits, a joint team from the Anti-Narcotics Task Force and local police cordoned off the area and detained the suspects.
The accused have been identified as Mangal Harijan, 19, and Bhimraj Tandi, 23, both residents of Salekela village in Odisha’s Nuapada district. A search of their bags yielded the cannabis along with two mobile phones. The total value of the seized items stands at ₹9.36 lakh.
Deputy Commissioners of Police Smritik Rajnala (Crime and Cyber) and Robinson Guria (West Zone) directed officers to verify the information and initiate action.
Police registered a case against the duo under Section 20(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Tikrapara police station. Preliminary questioning revealed that the contraband was smuggled from Odisha. Investigation is underway to trace the supply network and arrest others involved in the racket.
