Delhi building collapse: 20-year-old student from Durg dies

Raipur: Durg student Yuvraj Soni (20) died in a building collapse at Satya Niketan, Delhi, on Sunday. Yuvraj was a BCom student at Motilal Nehru College, Delhi University. He had returned to Delhi only a few days ago after celebrating Raksha Bandhan with his family at Panchsheel Nagar, Ward 1, Durg.
At the time of the incident, Yuvraj was speaking on the phone with his friend Aryan to plan an outing. During the call, Yuvraj suddenly stopped responding. The phone connectivity snapped after about a minute.
Aryan rushed to the spot after receiving information about the building collapse, as Yuvraj remained unreachable. Rescue workers recovered Yuvraj’s body after searching the debris for hours. The body was shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Yuvraj was the only son of Kanhaiya Soni, a local medical store owner. He is survived by his parents and a younger sister studying in Class 9.
After receiving the news, Yuvraj’s family members left for Delhi and have reached the AIIMS Trauma Centre. The Durg district administration contacted the family and assured them of assistance in bringing the body back to Durg.
A neighbour said Yuvraj had been studying in Delhi for nearly a year. He left Durg on August 31 after his holidays and reached Delhi on September 1.
