The national flag will be hoisted for the first time in 33 remote villages of Bijapur district on Independence Day, marking a significant shift toward peace, development and democratic participation in regions long affected by Maoist violence.
Decades of insurgent threats prevented residents in these interiors of the Bastar division from celebrating national events. Government welfare schemes, infrastructure projects and administrative reach have now expanded into these areas, bringing local communities into the democratic fold.
In the Bijapur block, six villages—Lendra, Andri, Edsmeta, Peddapal, Kachilwar and Mosla—will host official Independence Day ceremonies and flag hoisting functions for the first time.
Fifteen villages in the Bhairamgarh block will witness national flag hoisting ceremonies along with patriotic cultural programmes. These villages include Birabhatti, Parkeli, Ponadvaya, Tumirgunda, Jarwa, Gundapuri, Adwada, Damaram, Mukkaveli, Jhilli, Marrameta, Ehkeli, Pallevaya, Dodum and Kadmer.
Seven villages in the Bhopalpatnam block—Sendra, Palsegundi, Nilmadgu, Bandepara, Koranjed, Kachalaram and Marimalla—along with five villages in the Usur block—Kasturpad, Chinna Utlapalli, Pedda Utlapalli, Edapalli and Botelanka—are also preparing for their maiden flag hoisting events.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has directed state departments to prioritize basic infrastructure, education, healthcare, roads and drinking water facilities in these former insurgent strongholds to sustain community trust and administrative coverage.
