RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday led a plantation drive at the new Assembly complex in Nava Raipur under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0’ campaign.

The event was attended by Leader of Opposition Dr Charan Das Mahant, Forest and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kedar Kashyap, cabinet ministers, MLAs, and Assembly Secretary Dinesh Sharma.

During the programme, Dr Raman Singh planted a Rudraksha sapling in memory of his mother, Late Sudha Singh. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai planted a Rudraksha sapling in honour of his mother, Jasmani Devi. Dr Charan Das Mahant and Dinesh Sharma planted Kusum saplings in memory of their mothers, Janki Devi Mahant and Savitri Devi, respectively.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Raman Singh said the Chhattisgarh Assembly is known across the country for its unique traditions. He said the state government has launched a large-scale plantation drive under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, and MLAs planted saplings to enhance the greenery around the new Assembly complex.

He said, “Forests ensure water, and water ensures life. Planting more trees is essential to restore ecological balance.” He added that the participation of MLAs from all political parties reflected the Assembly’s commitment to public interest above politics. He also assured that all the saplings planted at the new complex would be nurtured regularly.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the statewide plantation drive is part of the national campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that whenever elected representatives visit the new Assembly complex in the future, they will be able to see the trees they planted growing, creating lasting memories.
